Artist statement writing service

As an established art writer and editor, I have experience helping artists to put together their artist statements, as well as “about” pages and artwork descriptions for websites, and application letters and statements for artist residencies and competitions.

Scroll down for examples of my previous work, a explanation of how I help artists write artist statements, and the packages and pricing structures I can offer.

How I work

When an artist approaches me, I begin by looking at their work. I believe the physical artwork should always be the starting point for an artist statement, and this stage helps me to understand the craft behind an artist’s practice. I then discuss the artist’s approach, philosophy and interests, either in a face-to-face meeting, over the phone or via email, establishing a few narrative threads to draw out in the statement. After this, I go away and write a first draft. There are then a couple of rounds back and forth between the artist and myself to ensure that the statement captures what the artist wants to say.
